    The HCLU, the Hebrew Civil Liberties Union, has brought a case to the Sanhedrin against monarchy in Israel and Judah. They claim that it violates the Torah, the Jewish Constitution, because it leads people to sin. They would prefer that this form of government be abolished altogether.

    Task
    Compose a legal briefing followed by a complete presentation either for the Plaintiff, Against Monarchy, or for the Defense, in Favor of Monarchy. The 2 best presentations for the Plaintiff and Defense will participate in a mock trial in which the rest of the class will serve as the Elders of the Sanhedrin to decide the case.
    {media2.jpg}{media2.jpeg}
    Process
    First, you will work alone composing your legal briefing. The position you will be required to take either for the Plaintiff or the Defense will be randomly chosen. This briefing should be between 1-2 pages, size 12 font, double spaced, and reference sources from the books of Devarim, Shoftim, Shemuel, and at least 2 kings in support of your position. It should also contain your own analysis and opinion. This briefing should be submitted to TurnItIn one week after it is assigned. Instructions for inserting to TurnItIn appear below under resources.

    You will then be divided into groups of 2-3 students based on the position you took for the plaintiff or the defense. Each group will be given their own blank Wiki page to work on.

    A Slideshare or Prezi presentation embedded on the page,
    Relevant Internet links,
    2 Wiki Discussion questions for other students to answer,
    At least 5 pieces of evidence embedded on the page.
    The evidence can be in the form of text, pictures, paintings or drawings, video, or music.
    You may use items that you find from the Internet (with proper citation) but at least one piece of evidence should be created by you.
    The evidence should be prominently showcased on your wiki page and also may be included as a part of your Slideshare/Prezi presentation.
    The presentation is due on Thursday, November 12 at 9AM. You will have at least 2 classroom periods to work on this project with the rest of the presentation to be completed on your own time.
    These presentations will count as a test grade and will be graded based on the rubric below. The 2 best groups will then present a mock trial in class with the winning group receiving 5 points extra credit on this assignment.
