Introduction

Now that you have been introduced to Amos, the of the literary prophets and been introduced to a method of analyzing his beautiful Biblical poetry it's time to do some work of your own.

Task

  1. Working alone you will write a 2 page paper analyzing the literary methods and timeless messages in a prophecy of Amos of your choosing.
    • Prophecies will be chosen using the online survey in which you submit your first, second, and third choices.
    • A maximum of 2 people can work on the same piece so please choose quickly (but wisely).
  2. Then working alone or with one partner assigned to the same piece, you will create a work of art recreating the prophecy in a modern format and updating the themes to deal with modern issues.

Process

  1. Please fill out Be The Prophet Survey of your first, second, and third choices of prophecy. If you have a partner you wish to work with, please mention it in the survey and make sure they give the same responses as you.
  2. First, you will work alone composing your literary analysis of the prophecy assigned to you based on your responses to the survey.
    • This paper should be at least 2 pages, size 12 font, double spaced, and reference sources from the books and websites you will be given.
    • It should also contain your own analysis and opinion.
    • Remember to include literary elements like chiastic structure, repeated words, number schemes, and poetic metaphors.
    • You should address the major themes that Amos is concerned with.
    • This paper should be submitted to TurnItIn by March 14. Instructions for inserting to TurnItIn appear below under resources.
  3. For the Second part, working alone or with a partner, you will create a work of art that is based on the prophecy you studied but that recreates it in a different format and updates it's message and themes to a modern setting.
    • Your art can be in the form of a drawing, painting, diorama, mobile, video, Google Sketch or Prezi. NO POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS PLEASE.
    • The art should include a typed narration/explanation of the piece that is self explanatory or in the case of a video a typed script.
  4. The deadline has been extended. The paper is now due up Turnitin on Sunday night March 14 at 11:59PM. The artwork is due on Friday, March 19, 2nd Period.
    • You will have at least 2 classroom periods to work on this project with the rest of the presentation to be completed on your own time.
    • These presentations will count as a test grade and will be graded based on the rubric below. The 2 best groups will be able to present to the entire class.
